Things happened with coincidence such as Alessandro Michele, Beyonce & The Old Clare Building are all paying tributes to their own roots but in their very own innovating ways. It’s like 2016 is the year of détournement for everybody.
Is a “too much floral suit” still too much when it is only for the dreamers and adventurers ?
Is grandpa’s old timber cabinets still just old cabinets when it is for one of the most luxury boutique hotels in Sydney?
Is a song for the haters still a hating song when Queen-B sings it?
Location : The Old Clare Hotel, Chippendale, Sydney
Talking about GUCCI’s Resort collection 2016 short film, which is definitely the “Formation” video kind of sensation as in the fashion circle. As if Alessandro Michele declared it’s time for the change. Just as when it was the time for Google calendars replace paper calendars, as the time we all changed from Nokia to iPhone 6 plus. The changes may make you and me feel uncomfortable, it is like when we first getting used to Mac system, it’s like when we first getting used to our phone reminders & siri from physical pocketnotes and that forever-cant-be-found pen.
There are predictions like “Oh, neoprene will be popular next year” or “Maxi skirt and mesh will be back the coming season” kind of design houses, but Alessandro Michele is more like predicting what it will be in the next 10 years or what is for the next generation. The New GUCCI is for the hearts dare to dream and dream big and bald.
But just like Beyonce’s Formation, Alessandro Michele still pays his homage, isn’t that soundtrack very California Dreamin’ ?
