MINIMAL GREY IN CHIPPENDALE, SYDNEY

February 5, 2016

As you would have seen from my Instagram and Snapchat, Jiawa and I have just checked in at The Old Clare Hotel in Chippendale, Sydney. And we found this beautiful minimal residential building just cross the street near the Central Park Broadway and the Kensington Social.

SYDNEY INSIDER : SIMPLYMONOCHROME.CO’S FAVOURITE BRUNCH CAFES

October 1, 2015

We asked help from Sydney based creative male blogger / Instagrammer Tim Lo ( @SIMPLYMONOCHROME.CO ) ( currently in London ) for his very recommendations what’s on his Sydney top cafe list, we not only stole all his crazily popular photos he put on Instagram but also got some good tips picking the best cafes for your very different tastes.

Creperie Suzette

1.Creperie Suzette

Location: The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) is less than five minutes walk, easiest way to get here is by ferry or train at Circular Quay station.

34 Harrington St, The Rocks NSW 2000 (02) 8220 9999

This cafe is right next to the Harbour Rocks hotel, there is even a “insiders” secret door connected to the Harbour Rocks hotel’s  lobby, if you are staying at the hotel, feel free to come down for a coffee with your dressing gown. The Harbour Rocks hotel is where all the Modern Family crew stayed back years ago.

Anita Gelato

2. Anita Gelato

Location: next to Central Park, not far from China Town, Central Station or Broadway Shopping Centre. Weekends surely it is crowded, try come in early since they open at 7 am when nobody is there!

COVER

3. Edition Coffee Roasterseditioncoffeeroasters.com )

265 Liverpool St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010.

That is the Japanese minimal space Jiawa Liu has been craving for for a long time. She even failed to find one in Japan. Tim and I found this quiet little corner in a sunny afternoon, how lucky.  Unluckily, their famous Black rice, lemon curd and raw chocolate pudding was sold out. 🙁  but their other Japanese style breakfasts are just as nice.

ORTO TRADING CO

4. Orto Trading Co. ( ortotradingco.com )

     38 Waterloo Street, Surry Hills

Tim decided to pay this café a visit after seeing its appearance on Margaret Zhang’s Instagram and it certainly did not disappoint. The food tasted just as good as they looked and the outdoor tables make it a prime spot for some good flatlay actions for the food bloggers.

5. Brewtown Newtown ( Brewtownnewtown.com )

      6-8 O’Connell Street, Newtown

This is one of the places I would visit over and over again because of a few reasons. It has an amazing menu and some of tastiest and most satisfying pastries out there! Don’t       forget to show up earlier on the weekends as it tends to get quite busy.

autolyse SYDNEY

6. Autolyse Sydney ( Autolyse.com.au )

      RB10/28 Broadway Street, Chippendale NSW 2008 (02) 8074 9458

One of the most popular Canberra bakeries Autolyse opened earlier this year in Sydney city but has since been forced to shut down. Lets hope they will come back soon with their yummy macarons!

7. York Trading & Co. ( Yorktradingco.com.au )

     28 York Street, Sydney

No time for coffee? Why not just hop in and take a snap of the interior!

pottery Green bakers Gordan

8. Pottery Green Bakers

For people love baguettes , you are coming to the right place ! They have a large selection of flavours! but this place isn’t that close to town, so if you happen to be in Gordan, make sure you come by.

4 St Johns Ave, Gordon NSW 2072.   Phone:(02) 9499 8799

With a Vietnamese based menu, Pottery Green Bakers delivers a great range of comfort foods from their signature beef pho to your typical eggs benedict with salmon.

 French Touch Creperie
There’s a reason Surry Hills is one of the most popular suburbs in Sydney for catching up and food out, there are too many places worth getting excited about.
559 Crown St, Surry Hills NSW 2010
Looking for something different? Why not go ahead and experience ‘a little touch of France’ in Surry Hills? The savory crêpes “galettes” are definitely a must-try!Waterloo DEVON ON DONKS
10. Devon on Dank  ( http://www.devoncafe.com.au )
2 Danks St, Waterloo NSW 2017

The successive café that opened after the original Devon café located in Surry Hills. Besides the amazing cronuts, coffees and brunches I had there, the cool vibes and friendly staffs are also why I enjoy going to this place!

What Does Sydney Boy Wear in Spring – Benji Condie

September 16, 2015

Australia: noun. 1.   A country you wear absolutely different seasons in different cities;

    2.   A country you wear almost different seasons between hours in all the cities.

Caught up with Benji  at Potts Point earlier today, who’s presenting a very relaxed yet fresh Sydney boy street style in thin texture white t-shirt, black skinny jeans with a dropped crotch and white leather sneakers.  The beautiful sun during the day still could not fool this Sydney boy who has been ready (with a black shearling collared vintage biker jacket)  for its spring evening chill and his busy evening schedules.

Partially China(ese) 游谊园

September 14, 2015

So aloha from darling harbour again.  It has been silently decided that it’s the time visiting Sydney again for spring wardrobe updates. If Kurt has been honest , he would’ve had no idea how Sydney visits can come through just so quickly one by one. Regardless the traffic driving in / out cbd, just say how can one possibly walk between town hall and central station with multiple suit bags and shooting equipments, by that, he meant the 3 kg camera, 4 kg tripod and etc.

1888 Hotel Sydney

May 2, 2015

12-16 April is the most important week of the year for me : The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.

So Jiawa and I elected 1888 Hotel as our tempo rest net during the crazy #MBFW week, since it is so close to my long time craving Momofuku Seiobo by David Chang, Messina Ice-cream and The Sydney Morning Herald
Growers’ Market, plus the beautiful bay view, so why not ?

.  Do you know that this Pyrmont boutique hotel ( 1888 Hotel )  received three prestigious 2015 Travellers Choice Awards from Tripadvisor? Voted # 8 Hotel overall for Australia, # 10 Hotel for Best Service and #10 for Romance!

So check my photos below and let me know what you think about this hotel! I cant wait to stay there again and also finding more amazing hotels like this to experince again! Hope to see Sydney again before next year’s fashion week!

H&M Studio 2014

September 16, 2014
DSC_0121

I paid a visit to H&M studio Autumn&Winter Collection 2014 during Vogue Fashion Night out Sydney, my friend said negative things about H&M, complaining how cheap they are in Europe.

But, really, if you wanted something two weeks ago which is $600 plus from farfetch, and H&M release them at their Studio Collection A/W 2014, $69, 100% wool, amazing cutting, u no taking it ? It’s all depends on what you really need and what you can afford, and don’t judge a book by reading only 2 pages of it. Do you want everyone stop supporting H&M becoming the king of the fashion industry or should you ask other labels to check their quality before they mark their prices ?

Sometimes, some labels, blow big trends in front of us, but they bore us even before the end of this season. Before the ending of 2014 half year sale, before 2014 Winter / Summer collection ends, Resort 2015 is released from all the labels. While some trends survived and keep showing up on the 2015 resort collections. It is time for you to go to style.com to find out what trends are still here and invest from 2014 sales before they ends or maybe wait till all the big retails throw another 20% off sale before the end of half financial year. So what trends ? big wide legged pants? flared silk whites ? cropped top ? cropped turtle neck? slides ? flats ? sandals everywhere ? big buckles ? Checks or stripes ? colour blocks or minimalism? geographic prints or floral? camo or hologram? metallic or  pastel collars ?

Who changed the way you blog ?
Who’s the most influencing bloggers ?
I changed a lot in the way I blog after reading style bubble. Susie has not only just blogging her own styles but the most importantly, been always digging in the history, stories BEHIND the logo. I hardly find any bloggers showing “the details” about the designer pieces.  There are three main differences between designer labels and street fashion labels.
1. history and concepts
2. quality and fabrics
3. cuttings and makings
If we all just wearing designer labels like all the mannequins ( with save pins at the back on the waists), there what is the point of showing the blog entries everyday, I would rather go through net-a-porters lookbooks. Of course you still can showing your own outfits, but, while, then…. it will be all about the colour or the blurred cutting of that key pieces, you can replace it with replica, similar street style labeled items rather than the true designers items.

The Grounds, of Alexandria.
Alexandria is a suburb not far from Central Sydney, I actually have only been there once since 6 years ago. I only know it as Sass and Bide studio is located there when every time I looked at their newsletter etc.
It is a suburb with not much to look at but warehouses and new coming studio offices.
but with lots of hidden / rising secrets. The Ground roasters, cafe and brunch is one of them.

After a long swimming at Prince Afred Park Pool right off Sydney Central Station, near Surry Hills, having a taste of varieties of coffee came from Southeast of Brazil at GroundsRoasters, would be the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

It really works! Taking a day off from work and walking across Sydney shores from Double Bay to Shark Bay, explore the par of Sydney where only people have real money can stay around longer than  I did.
Standing on the edge cliff where the biggest house in Shark bay is right behind me.
The men made 2 floor tall back yard in a European style reminds me of where Lady Gaga pushed his lover off in the Video Paparazzi. It is exactly in the same style but only this one is in a tanned colour.
What really works ?
Some times I dont want work, but I want myself want to work. So checking out beautiful residences in Elizabeth Bay really inspires me and it works ( to push me forward )

Chinta Ria MOOD FOR LOVE (Malaysian) which located inside Westfield Sydney, is definitely one of the best little secret corners to take off the big city’s hustle and bustle and escape to enjoy this exotic village styled yet losing city romance corner  for a dinner for 2. Blessed by its intimate surroundings, if you are not planning for a big meal, sit at the bar side and pour yourself a glass of exotic Asian cocktail when cuddled by the romantic old HongKong music.
DSC_0316
I am crazy about ducks, Peking style roasted duck or HongKong styled BBQ duck are taken on a daily basis. I have not had much Malaysian since I am trying to take as much different Korean or Chinese as I can. While “the Duck Secret” is a first, it is lightly sour ( from marinated vegetables, Chinese people call them Sauerkraut / sour cabbage ) it is not that sour like Thai green curry or Korean BBQ pickled entrees, it is really lovely and softie, mixed with the richness and freshness of duck and tamarind infused broth, they come together cuddle my tongue yet attack my mouth, just copying all the actions this romantic place was doing to me, the whole night.
