THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE GOING TO JAIPUR

April 3, 2018

Recently Team Bloggers Boyfriend visited India for the first time! I didn’t know I would fall for this country this much before we went there! I didn’t visit any other cities during this trip except Jaipur, Amber and Bishangarh village, but India immediately comes my favourite country from all countries I have visited! The extremely friendly local people, the beautiful and vibrant colours women are wearing, the lively urban and intense traffic! It makes us feel so alive! I highly recommend you to visit India and experience the culture and atmosphere, but below are things I would love to warn you so that you can be prepared:

  1. Airport security  – We have done quite some research about drone policies, it is banned. We didn’t fly to big airports (such as Mumbai International Airport), but at Jaipur airport, we didn’t have any problems with our drones, please do not put them in your carry-ons!
  2. No ATM at Jaipur Airport – Try getting cash was an issue! The Jaipur airport ATM does not accept Visa or Master but local cards. We had to ask our hotel reception to pay to the taxi driver. There are quite some ATMs in Jaipur does not accept International cards, so you just need to keep trying, different from most ATMS I have used before, instead of inserting your cards till the end of the transaction, some ATMS require you insert and remove your card before the transaction.
  3. No public wifi at Jaipur Airport – Getting Internet in Jaipur was a huge problem for us. that including register a simcard already become hard, hard and hard! more details below.
  4. Can’t get a Uber at airport – since no wifi at Jaipur Airport, we can’t order a uber. Uber in Jaipur is very reliable and cheap, and you can avoid negotiating with taxi or tuk tuk drivers!
  5. We Booked the wrong hotel – We accidentally booked the wrong hotel which is very close to Airport – the Clarks Amer Hotel, the hotel was bit too far from Jaipur city, and the wifi really sucks! Does not recommend.
  6. Cant get a simcard – We tried to get a local simcard, but register one (even just a prepaid) is extremely hard – you need provide local reference (a local person you know), passport photo and so on. If you can get a tourist sim at Mumbai Airport or New Delhi Airport, please don’t wait until you arrive Jaipur. We tried Airtel, Vodafone and all other possible mobile stores, at the end we got a pocket wifi from Airtel in Jaipur city.
  7. No passport photo for sim card – get your passport photos handy before you arrive – lots of local forms require passport photo ( including while we were in Thailand before India, so get your photos printed! they didn’t have lots of problems with sizes’ difference)

Even India has become the most tourist-unfriendly country I have ever visited, It is still my favourite Country on earth! I used to super obsessed with Morocco, but since my two visit with a 60-days-stay, I think now it is time to move on to India! Also India is such a big country, there are so many places waiting for me! If you have any other tips or recommendations for India, please share with us!

Below are the photos I took in Jaipur city, Jaipur City Palace and Amber (The Step Well Amber)

There are so many big gates, doors and arches in Jaipur, they are all with beautiful paintings, prints and colours. This one is shot just outside the City Palace.

The shopping was so much fun in Jaipur, you can get so many cheap cotton and linen here, no need to mention the vibrant coloured silk! The little bucket shaped bags are only 100 Rs. You just need to know you should at least cut off 60% of their asking price to begin with!

While this guy found out I was taking photos of him, he stopped what he was doing and let me take photos of him, posing! People here are so nice! You have to come and experience that!

This guy let me take photos of him, but he was asking for tips afterwards! I didn’t give to him because I do not want to make them think that it can be a way of making living! It will end up losing the authenticity of the nation. Right: Jaipur City Palace Exit.

There are two parts of City Palace you can visit, one is the museums part (outside the palace) – 500 Rs – which you can see everywhere except the palace building. Another is the palace building 2500 Rs/person, it includes a guide taking you up and down the palace building with details explanation and bit of photo-time.  I am not sure if the 2500 Rs covers the museum part, so make sure you ask when you buying your ticket.
