How to Avoid Dull & Dreary Looks when Wearing Grey

July 17, 2015

Obviously I ain’t the only one complaining about Australian weather for the last few weeks even who is so big that made it be impossible to complain the weather of the whole wide country except this year in July.

But please be aware,  putting John Mayer’s lazy tunes on repeat in days like this doesn’t mean your outfits have to look as dreary as John’s songs.

Looking at the bright side though,  it’s the perfect time for Aussie Instagrammer bees to layer things up and stock dozeons of ready-to-post photos for American’s AW2016 timing in a few months time for Instagram. or like a little Margaret and post all things cosy : #50SHADESOFGREY, #GREYonGREY is shutting Internet down.

But really, how do you create a true monochromatic look though ? Do you just add all shades of greys up and waiting for thousands of likes on that pic? No ! It is a styling game rather than a colour hunting game.

First of all, we look at Proportions, Contrast & Body-Types.

“No body is perfect.” Wrong ! “Nobody is perfect when naked.” You look gorgeous in clothes with the right proportions.

Once you picked all your clothes right for your body type, you can have a minimal lifestyle and mindless dressing life like every each blogger has been dreaming about.

If you’re already wearing a Margiela signature loose fit boyfriend jeans, avoid oversized knits or sweaters, try to wear something well-fitted or tailored on the top, e.g. structured wool coats; if you are wearing pleated tailoring trousers, try layering upper body with pleasing contrasts.

Secondly, we play games : Contrasting textures.

which I learnt from BeigeRenegade and Alwaysjudging, is the most fun thing worth doing this winter season. You’re able to wear leathers, silks, knits and everything else all together in one outfit, you will find out styling is not just for impression anymore, it is for pleasure.

as I have mentioned above : pay attention to proportions : If you are following me on instagram, you know that I have stopped wearing any loose fitted trousers recently including flares i wore in this post. I have always thought my over masculined thigh will not be able to pull off any pair of Ksubi skinny jeans, the old me would prefer loose fitted trousers and flares just weeks ago : e.g. this grey vs. grey outfit. but the truth is they are just fine and skinny cutting jeans are actually looking great on me.

So since I have worn flares in this outfit, as I suggested above, to balance the whole thing out, so to wear well fitted blazers on top. Like this George Jreige bespoke grey jacket with pointing lapels, The aesthetic of George’s collection is for modern gentlemen who have busy schedules: they can bring  you whereever you want to go at anytime. That is correct, minimal mindless dressing. A tie or a Tee, it is up to you. At beach or at a meeting, you can rely on him.
